As the public are probably all now aware, an advertising campaign that was due to be distributed onto London buses and public transport has caused much offence to the LGBT community and indeed any rational, open minded person. The offence caused has been evident on social media networking sites Twitter and Facebook and I am grateful to these members of the public for bringing the issue to my attention.
Upon hearing the public’s outrage at these advertisements, I immediately contacted Boris and the Transport Commissioner, and we have succeeded in removing the advertisements from future public distribution. We recognise the offence caused and hope our swift action will stop further people feeling hurt or affronted. I personally, in no way, support the message behind the ad campaign and fully admire those individuals who were brave enough to speak out and let their discomfort with them be known.
