Metal Theft Conference

29 Nov 2011

London SE1 2AA

I chaired a City Hall a conference on Metal Theft. The event was hosted by the London Resilience Team who are now based here at City Hall.

The conference aimed to better understand the impacts and consequences for London of metal theft, explored what agencies and organisations are already doing to tackle the issue and also identified opportunities to increase the effectiveness of such measures. Consideration was also given at the conference to recommendations for new approaches to the problem, from increasing public and political awareness of the issue to the revision of legislation.

Guest speakers at the conference included Lord Henley, Minister of State at the Home Office, and Paul Crowther, the ACPO lead on Metal Theft. A large range of organisations and companies attended and contributed to the event including London First; CBI; FSB; London Councils; Network Rail; TfL; the MPS; BTP and a number of individual train and utility companies.
